Grange Lane, Lichfield

Grange Lane, Lichfield

Project background

An infilled clay pit was identified on site from the Phase 1 Geo-Environmental report, associated with a brick works located immediately south of the site which appears on historical maps from 1882 – 1965.
The site is also characterised by numerous development platforms that were created during the construction of the former caravan park with associated areas of hard standing.

What we did

IGE delivered a Phase 1 and Phase 2 Geo-Environmental Report, as well as soakaway testing in accordance with BRE 365.

A further Ground Investigation Report was delivered following additional ground investigation works in 2026.

Outcome

Three successful ground investigations leading to the recommendation of a suitable foundation solution for the gospel hall. An extensive area of Made Ground associated with the
infilling of historical clay pits was also delineated.

Chemical testing undertaken across the site allowed IGE to recommend a clean cover system be installed for areas of soft landscaping and public open space in the southwestern site section only, due to the presence of trace quantities of loose chrysotile asbestos fibres detected in 2 No. samples of Made
Ground. These samples were obtained from the Made Ground associated with the infilled clay pits.

Dynamic probing undertaken by IGE will also be used in the design of access roads and car parks.
