IGE Consulting was appointed by Breck to support the development of a 225-plot residential scheme on a brownfield site in Thornton-Cleveleys.
The site’s historical use as a power station presented significant challenges, including hydrocarbon contamination and obstructions within the ground that could impact the proposed piled foundation solution. The scale of remediation required, alongside the need for continuous oversight throughout construction, made this a complex and long-term project.
IGE provided ongoing technical support and supervision throughout both enabling and build phases. Early works focused on site-wide remediation, including overturning materials to remove obstructions and address hydrocarbon-impacted soils.
The was followed by detailed validation or remedial measures during construction, including the installation of cover systems across residential plots. IGE maintained a strong on-site presence, providing direct supervision and guidance to ensure works were carried out in line with agreed strategies and regulatory requirements.
The development has been successfully completed, with all remediation and validation works signed off by the local authority. Through consistent technical oversight and a proactive approach, IGE helped transform a challenging brownfield site into a safe, compliant and deliverable residential scheme.
