Contaminated Land

Contaminated Land

Understanding and managing contaminated land is critical to unlocking development sites safely, efficiently and in compliance with stringent regulatory requirements. At IGE Consulting, we provide trusted contaminated land services that help developers and project teams understand ground conditions early, reduce risk and progress schemes with confidence.

Our highly technical team works with developers, housebuilders, structural engineers, civil engineers and government organisations across a wide range of development and regeneration projects. By combining technical expertise and decades of experience with a detailed understanding of contaminated land legislation and regulatory frameworks, we provide clear, practical advice that supports both planning and construction.

Our services

IGE Consulting delivers a comprehensive range of contaminated land services including:

  • In line with Land Contamination Risk Management framework (LCRM) undertake, the typically tiered approach of Phase 1 Preliminary Risk Assessment (Desk study),  Phase 2 Site / Ground Investigationand production of Remedial / Remediation Strategies including options appraisals.
  • Ground investigation: Designing and delivering targeted intrusive investigations to understand site conditions and potential contamination.
  • Risk assessment: Identifying and assessing potential pollutant linkages to determine risks to human health, groundwater, property and the wider environment.
  • Environmental Impact Assessment: Providing technical input into environmental assessments to support planning applications and development proposals.

Our approach

Our work begins with a detailed desk study, reviewing historical land use, geological and environmental data to develop an initial understanding of potential contamination risks. This early-stage analysis allows us to design focussed site investigations that provide meaningful, reliable information rather than unnecessary or overtly extensive testing.

Through carefully planned intrusive investigations, we develop a detailed conceptual ground model that identifies potential contamination sources, pathways and receptors. This structured approach allows us to clearly demonstrate contaminated land linkages and provide evidence-based recommendations for remediation or risk management where required.

The IGE team includes Chartered Environmentalists and Chartered Geologists, ensuring all work is undertaken to the highest professional standards and in accordance with current industry guidance.

Delivering value

A clear and accurate understanding of ground conditions at an early stage reduces uncertainty later in the development process. By identifying risks and constraints early, we help clients minimise costly surprises during construction, when changes can have significant impacts on programme and budget.

At IGE, our approach is defined by care, detail and collaboration. We work closely with clients and maintain strong professional relationships with regulatory bodies to ensure that projects move forward smoothly through planning, approval and delivery.

Many of our clients return to work with us repeatedly because we take the time to understand their ambitions and projects, engaging early and providing practical solutions that maximise value throughout the development lifecycle.
